How to save an important date and track the countdown¶
What this is for¶
The Dates module stores important dates: birthdays, anniversaries, trips. Entries group into categories, show a countdown to the next occurrence, and when created they go into the planner as a single task.
How to get there¶
Pick Personal → Dates (/dates). Which entries are visible depends on
Settings → Modules, Dashboard & Today.
Step by step¶
- Click New Date.
- Enter Name and pick Date. The form notes that a one-off task will be added to the planner for that day.
- Pick or type Category. The suggestions show categories in use, and a new name creates a new section on the page.
- If it is a day off work, turn on Day off work. It pauses work hours for that day; existing tasks stay in the planner.
- Turn Repeat every year on or off. Turn repeating off for one-off dates and for holidays that fall on a different day of the year.
- Optionally add Description and click Create.
- To edit an entry, click its card. Delete in the edit window removes the entry after confirmation.
Fields and options¶
| Element | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Name, Date | Required fields; the date drives the countdown and the task in the planner. |
| Category | Any name; entries group into sections with their own icon. |
| Day off work | Pauses work hours on that day. |
| Repeat every year | Yearly repetition of the date; turned off means a one-off entry. |
| Countdown | Today, Tomorrow, in N days, and for past dates N days ago. |
| Filters | Category, From, To and Clear; the N shown counter. |
| Section icon | Editing the category icon after hovering over the section header. |
| Add | Adding an entry directly in a given category. |
Common mistakes / pitfalls¶
- A date from the future is taken literally — an entry saved for next year will not be moved into the current year. Past dates with repeating turned on move to the next observance; February 29 falls on February 28 in non-leap years.
- The one-off task in the planner is created only when the entry is created. A later date edit does not create a second copy and does not move the existing one — from that point on you manage the copy in the planner.
- If saving the day-off or repeating setting fails, the app asks you to retry the save; retrying does not create a second entry.
