Start and finish a timer¶
What this is for¶
A timer shows the time from its start to a chosen deadline and keeps the history of runs. You can count down a given duration or set exact start and end dates.
How to get there¶
Choose Personal → Timers (/timers). The item can be hidden in Settings → Panels.
Step by step¶
- Click New timer and enter a Name.
- Choose Duration and give a time, or choose Dates and set Started at and Target at.
- Optionally turn on Repeat this timer and click Start timer.
- When you want to end a started run, click Finish. The run goes to Finished. The deadline passing on its own does not end it.
- To restart a timer, choose Start again in the menu and confirm Start again. A new run is created; the previous one stays in the history.
- If you want to move a run to the archive, choose Archive and confirm. For an active timer, this ends the current run at the moment of archiving.
Fields and options¶
| Option | Action |
|---|---|
| Duration | Days, Hours, Minutes, Seconds or a ready time; the start of a new run is set by the server on save. |
| Dates | An absolute start and deadline; you enter the dates in the account's time zone. |
| Repeat this timer | For Duration, the next run starts after Finish; for Dates, the same time window is scheduled for the next day. |
| Active, Finished, Archived | Views of current, finished and archived runs. |
| Edit | Changes the name and, for an active run, the schedule. Changing the duration counts the deadline from the original start. |
| Start again | Usually starts a new run now; for daily date-based repeats — the nearest future day at the same local times. |
| Delete | Permanent removal of a run after Delete permanently. |
Common mistakes / pitfalls¶
- There is no separate pause or Stop button. Use Finish to end a run and Archive to keep it out of the active list.
- Name must be 1 to 120 characters, and the time from 1 second to 10 years. In Dates, the end must fall after the start.
- Finish is unavailable before the scheduled start.
- At an ambiguous time during a daylight-saving change, read the warning and click save again to confirm your choice.
- A conflict with an edit elsewhere requires refreshing the data.
